About Us

Chef/Owner Matthew McPhelin graduated with honors from The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College in Philadelphia.  Since then he refined his culinary skills and his creativity flourished when he worked in the award winning kitchens of La Croix at the Rittenhouse Hotel and Savona Restaurant.  Matt finally realized his dream of opening his own restaurant with Maize.

The Food
Our menu is made from scratch with seasonal ingredients with a focus on locally grown items. The menu changes often to keep up with foods at their peak.

The Name
Maize is another word for corn, which is an indigenous food to America. In Native American language the word "Mahiz" (Maize) means "that which sustains us". Maize allowed early settlers to sustain the first winter.
Native Americans offered popcorn as a sign of hospitality to welcome guests.  We welcome you to come and experience Maize restaurant.  It will be an experience like no other.
